Deep Tissue Sports Massage
Deep tissue massage is a massage therapy used to release chronic muscle tension. It
focuses on realigning deeper layers of muscle and connective tissue and eliminating
localised areas of tension. It is especially helpful for:
| |
Stiff neck
Low back pain
Sore shoulders
Limited mobility
Recovery from injuries (eg. whiplash, falls or sports)
Repetitive strain injury (eg. carpal tunnel syndrome)
Postural problems
Osteoarthritis pain
Fibromyalgia
Muscle tension, spasm, reduced range of motion
|
However you do not need to be in pain or suffer a musculoskeletal injury to benefit from massage. Massage can be used simply as a relaxation tool to allow you to ‘unwind’. For a general body massage with the purpose of relaxation it is up to you which areas we work on. In such instances we do not massage as deep within the muscle layers as with sports massage and the strokes used are generally slower and more calming.

What to wear
For deep tissue sports massage your condition will dictate the area to be treated, however with general massage it is up to you as to which parts of your body are included in the massage.
In both cases these areas do need to be unclothed as we use an oil to perform the massage. Towels are used to cover you and your modesty will be considered at all times.
Normal underwear is fine however some people prefer to wear a pair of shorts. Ladies should wear a bra that is easily unclipped so as to allow access to your back muscles once lying down if necessary. It is also a good idea to tie back long hair so it does not get in the way.
